Town of Waimea (Kamuela)
Notes on creating a 3D model of the small town of Waimea.
- February 2006, Nino Walker writes:
"I loaded the Waimea data into the VTP and manipulated it to run in Enviro.
Here are .JPGs demonstrating. (The redlines are flood zones, except the
spurious one in the middle of PR 2020, white are proposed roads.)
- Extraction of building footprints from the Emerge aerial is still in
progress. As of February 2006, around 40% of the town is done. The
nominally 1-meter Emerge doesn't really have enough accuracy for the shape
of the smaller buildings, so it is an approximate process at best.
- The site waimeaplan.org has great
extensive planning info, but it doesn't have any specific geodata. The
usual
State GIS site remains the
most reliable central location for data.
- June 1, 2006: a
traffic circulation study (3.2 MB pdf) was
publicly presented by consulting firm Parsons Brinckerhoff. (background
questions for the study). They collected some data, and assembled a
small micro-sim of the traffic. Is this data available?

- Called Wayne on 9/7. He confirmed that the micro-sim model is still
preliminary. The package they are using is
Synchro Studio
SimTraffic
from Trafficware. (see
description of Synchro on the
commercial software
page, at the bottom). The geometry was draped on the aerial
approximately, not precisely or georeferenced. There is no technical
information available about this package on the company's site, so it's
unclear whether exporting data from it is feasible.
